Collision history at a location, for solicitors and expert witnesses

See whether a junction, bend or stretch of road has a recorded history of injury collisions, and in what conditions, before you instruct an expert or request records from the council.

No card needed for the trial. Cancel at any time.

What it helps with

  • Is there a history at this location?

See every police-reported injury collision at a junction, bend or stretch of road over the years you choose, and whether it is a one-off or part of a pattern.

  • In what conditions?

Each record carries the light, weather and road surface conditions, the speed limit, the junction type and any carriageway hazard the police noted, so you can filter for collisions like your client's.

  • Who was involved?

Pick out collisions involving pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, goods vehicles or buses, and see how severe the injuries were.

  • Something to put on the file

Export a PDF summary for the file, or the records as CSV or Excel for an expert to work from.

What it won't tell you

  • Who was at fault. The published data leaves out the officer's contributory factors and account of what happened.
  • Who was involved. There are no names, addresses or vehicle registrations. For the report on a specific collision, apply to the police force that dealt with it.
  • Anything from this year. Collisions appear once the Department for Transport publishes the validated year, the autumn after.
  • The highway authority's own records. Inspection, defect and maintenance histories are held by the council and have to be requested from it.

What a study looks like

A study collects every recorded injury collision in the area and years you choose, totals them by year and severity, and picks out the road users and conditions involved. Each collision keeps its own record, with the date, time, severity, vehicles, casualties, road, junction, light, weather and road surface.

  • Collision studies for any site, radius or route
  • Filter by vehicle, casualty, time, junction and conditions
  • CSV, Excel, GeoJSON and PDF exports
  • Every regional collision report, with PDF download
  • Closure alerts for 50 roads and 10 site areas

How it compares

A formal extract from the highway authority is the authoritative record, and sometimes you will need one. Councils charge for each request, usually per location, per road or per radius. These are the published fees we have checked on councils' own websites.

Turnaround

Few councils publish one. Hertfordshire, for example, says standard requests are delivered within 10 working days of the purchase order. A Pro study is ready as soon as you have chosen the area.

What Pro is, and what it isn't

Pro is built on the Department for Transport's published STATS19 data: every personal injury collision on a public road in Great Britain that was reported to the police. The latest validated year is 2025. It is the right tool for screening sites, feasibility work and early-stage analysis.

Where the highway authority asks for its own extract, often for a Transport Assessment or a road safety audit, you will still need to request one. Pro tells you what that extract is likely to show before you pay for it.

Not in the published data

  • Contributory factors. The causes the attending officer recorded are left out of the open data.
  • Officers' descriptions. There is no narrative of what happened, and no names or registrations.
  • The current year. Provisional, unvalidated records are held by the police and the highway authority until the annual release.
  • Damage-only and unreported collisions. Only injury collisions the police knew about are included, and the Department for Transport notes that many non-fatal casualties are never reported to the police.
  • Northern Ireland. STATS19 covers England, Scotland and Wales only.

Questions

Can I find my client's collision in the data?

Often, if it involved an injury, was reported to the police and falls within a published year. STATS19 records the date, time, location, vehicles and casualties, but no names, registrations or statements. For the police report on a specific collision you still need to apply to the police force.

Does the data show who was at fault?

No. The published data does not include contributory factors or the attending officer's account. It shows where and when injury collisions happened and the conditions recorded at the time.

Where does the data come from?

The Department for Transport's STATS19 dataset: every personal injury collision on a public road in Great Britain that was reported to the police, published as open data under the Open Government Licence. The latest validated year in CrashView is 2025.

Is a Pro study the same as a council collision extract?

No. It uses the same police-reported collisions, but the published open data leaves out contributory factors, the officer's description of what happened and the current year's provisional records, all of which a highway authority can add to a formal extract. Use Pro to screen sites and see what an extract is likely to show. Where the highway authority asks for its own extract, you will still need to request one.

Does it cover Northern Ireland?

No. STATS19 covers England, Scotland and Wales. Collisions in Northern Ireland are recorded separately by the PSNI.

Can I use the results in a report for a client?

The underlying STATS19 data is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0, which allows commercial reuse as long as you acknowledge the source, for example: "Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0."

How does the free trial work?

You get 14 days of Pro without entering a card. When the trial ends you drop back to the free plan unless you subscribe. If you subscribe during the trial, the first payment waits until the trial ends.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time from the billing page. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.

Do I get invoices?

Every payment produces a receipt and an invoice you can download from the billing page, with your company name, address and VAT number if you add them at checkout.
